FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to what we're asked most before a UniFi installation.

General

What is UniFi?

UniFi is Ubiquiti's platform for networking, WiFi, video surveillance, access control and telephony. All devices are managed from a console (Cloud Gateway) and the UniFi app, with no licences or fees.

What is Ubiquiti?

Ubiquiti Inc. is the US manufacturer of UniFi equipment. UI.com is its official website and store.

Who installs UniFi in Valencia?

IPProtec is a Ubiquiti UniFi installation specialist based in Bétera working across Valencia and its metropolitan area: design, installation, configuration and maintenance.

Can you install a complete UniFi network?

Yes: from the fibre line to the last access point, camera or reader, including cabling, network cabinet, configuration and documentation.

Do you install UniFi cameras?

Yes, UniFi Protect systems with local recording, person and vehicle detection, sensors and video doorbells.

Do you install access control?

Yes, UniFi Access for doors, gates, garages and lifts, with card, PIN, phone, Apple/Google Wallet, QR or licence plate depending on the reader.

Can you install WiFi in a villa?

Yes: indoor access points per floor and outdoor ones for garden, terrace and pool, wired and with a single network name.

Can you install WiFi in a business?

Yes, sized by number of users and areas, with separate networks for staff and guests.

Can you improve an existing WiFi network?

Yes. We measure, find the problem and fix it with adjustments, relocation or expansion, keeping what works.

Do you work with existing installations?

Yes, we expand, configure and maintain UniFi installations done by others, after reviewing them.

Can you design the network?

Yes, as a standalone service or as the first phase of the project: plans, architecture, bill of materials and quote.

Can you install cameras and network at the same time?

Yes, and it's the most efficient way: cabling is done once, cameras are PoE-powered and sit on their own network.

Can access control be integrated with the rest of the infrastructure?

Yes. UniFi Access runs on the same console as the network and cameras, and every unlock can be viewed with its video.

Do you offer maintenance?

Yes, with plans for remote monitoring, controlled updates, periodic checks and priority response.

Do you sell equipment on its own?

We're not a shop: we supply hardware as part of an installation project, choosing the right model for each point.

Do you work in English?

Yes. We can handle surveys, proposals and handovers in English or Spanish.

Does UniFi Network have fees or licences?

No. The UniFi Network application and remote management through UniFi Site Manager require no licences or subscriptions. You pay for the hardware and, where applicable, installation and maintenance.

Do I need a Cloud Gateway to have a UniFi network?

It's recommended: the Cloud Gateway acts as router and firewall and hosts the management application. Other console options exist, but for new installations the gateway simplifies everything and can also run Protect or Access if the model supports it.

Can I keep my ISP's router?

In many cases the ISP router is set to bridge mode or placed in front of the UniFi gateway. We decide based on the line type (fibre, 5G, static IP) and the ISP's services such as TV or telephony.

Does UniFi Protect have a monthly fee?

No. Recording, detections and remote access require no subscription. The cost is the hardware (cameras, console or NVR and disks) and installation.

Where are recordings stored?

On the disks of the UniFi console or NVR installed at your home or business. You can watch them remotely, but they are not uploaded to a third-party cloud.

How many days of recording will I get?

It depends on the number of cameras, resolution, recording mode and disk capacity. We calculate storage during design to meet the days you need.

Can I use cameras from other brands?

UniFi Protect supports compatible third-party ONVIF cameras with limited features compared with UniFi cameras. We assess it case by case when there are existing cameras to reuse.

UniFi Access

Can I open the door with my phone?

Yes. With the UniFi Identity app or Touch Pass in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, depending on the installed reader.

Does it work for my community's garage door?

Yes, through the Gate Hub connected to the existing operator, as long as the control panel has an open input. We check it during the site visit.

What happens if the power or Internet goes down?

Without Internet, access control keeps working locally. During a power cut, behaviour depends on the lock (fail-safe or fail-secure) and whether there is a UPS; we define it according to each door's security needs.

Can you install WiFi in a villa with a garden and pool?

Yes. We combine indoor access points with outdoor ones (U7 Outdoor or U7 Pro Outdoor) and, for outbuildings without cable, point-to-point wireless links.

Mesh or wired access points?

Wired whenever possible: they deliver more speed and stability. We use wireless mesh only where cable can't be run.

How many access points do I need?

It depends on the area, materials and users. As a guide, a home usually needs one per floor plus one per outdoor area; we confirm it in the survey.
