Plates (LPR)
Licence plate recognition and automatic opening for vehicles
Log the plates that come and go and open automatically for authorised vehicles, without remotes or cards.
In short: UniFi plate recognition combines a UniFi Protect camera able to recognise plates (ideally the AI LPR) with the UniFi Access Gate Hub, which opens the gate or barrier when the plate is authorised.
Our approach
Reading a plate reliably doesn't depend only on the camera: distance, angle, vehicle speed and night lighting decide the result. That's why we start with a survey of the entrance.
The UniFi AI LPR camera is designed for this task, with optical zoom and optimised night vision. At slow, short entrances other AI-series cameras can work; we state it clearly in the proposal.

FAQ
About licence plate recognition
Which camera reads plates?
The UniFi AI LPR is the dedicated plate camera. Other AI-series cameras can recognise plates at slow, close entrances, with less consistent results.
Does it work at night?
Yes, with the right camera properly positioned. We verify it in night tests before handover.
Do I need UniFi Access to open by plate?
Yes. Protect reads the plate and UniFi Access, through the Gate Hub, decides whether to open the gate or barrier.
Want your gate to recognise vehicles?
We survey your entrance and tell you what reliability to expect.
